Wir haben Merrico zum Interview gebeten. Sein Track „Dragonfly“ ist auf dem aktuellen White Rooms Release Various Artists – Feelgood Lounge erschienen und wir lieben den Sound.

Erzähl uns etwas über dich, wer bist du, woher kommst du?
Hallo, mein bürgerlicher Name ist Marcel Seidel. Aufgewachsen in Oberhausen, bin ich vor 12 Jahren der Liebe und der Arbeit wegen nach Düsseldorf gezogen. Ich bin 38 Jahre alt, glücklich verheiratet und habe einen 9-jährigen Sohn. Hauptberuflich gelernt habe ich Zweiradmechaniker und habe in diesem Beruf auch den Meister abgeschlossen.

Du machst also nicht hauptberuflich Musik. Wie läuft dein Alltag ab? Lässt sich Musikproduktion ohne Schwierigkeiten in deinen Alltag integrieren?
Leider nein. Hauptberuflich bin ich in einer Behinderten-Werkstatt als Gruppenleiter tätig und übe dort meinen erlernten Beruf aus und versuche Menschen mit Handicap wieder in den allgemeinen Arbeitsmarkt zu integrieren oder sie am Arbeitsleben teilhaben zu lassen. Es ist nicht immer leicht, Beruf und Musik unter einen Hut zu bekommen. Aber den Großteil meiner Freizeit verbringe ich mit Musik. Auch wenn das viel Zeit kostet, versuche ich neben Arbeit und Familie Zeit zu finden, um Musik zu machen.

Wie bist du zur Musik gekommen? Und wer oder was hat dich inspiriert, selbst Musik zu machen? Bewunderst du andere berühmte Musiker oder Produzenten?
Die Musik war schon immer ein wichtiger Teil meines Lebens. Mit 10 Jahren hab ich angefangen Gitarre zu spielen. In meiner Jugend bin ich mit elektronischer Musik in Kontakt gekommen und ich war sofort begeistert. Da ich sehr technisch interessiert bin, war es nur eine Frage der Zeit, bis ich irgendwann vor dem DJ Pult stand. Mit meinem Bruder bin ich Artists wie Sven Väth, Sam Paganini, Kerstin Eden usw. hinter her gereist, die mich sehr inspirierten.

Wie würdest du die Musik beschreiben, die du produzierst? Hat sich dein Stil schon einmal verändert?
Generell ist meine Genre-Vorliebe sehr breit. Momentan mag ich die chilligen Klänge sehr gerne. Und vor allem handgemachte Musik in den Tracks zu integrieren. Ich produziere aber auch gerne Tracks im Techno- und Techhouse-Bereich.

Wir alle wissen, Kreativität kennt Höhen und Tiefen. Wie motivierst du dich? Hast du Tipps für andere?
Ich höre rund um die Uhr Musik. Es fängt schon auf dem Weg zur Arbeit im Auto an, geht dann auf der Arbeit weiter, weil den ganzen Tag das Radio läuft.  Die musikalischen Eindrücke, die ich dadurch den ganzen Tag aufnehme, lasse ich in meiner Freizeit raus.

Was steht als nächstes bei dir an?
Neben dem aktuellen Titel Dragonfly kommt noch ein Remix von mir, den ich für Asiomazes machen durfte. Eine eigene EP ist auch in Arbeit, dessen Release-Datum aber aktuell noch nicht bekannt ist. Momentan befinde ich mich in einem kreativen Prozess für meine nächsten Tracks, die vielleicht etwas schneller werden könnten.

So we asked Merrico for an interview. His track „Dragonfly“ just appeared on the current White Rooms release Various Artists – Feelgood Lounge and we absolutely love the sound.

Merrico, tell us something about yourself. Who are you, where are you from?
Well hi, my name is Marcel Seidel. Growing up in Oberhausen, I moved to Düsseldorf 12 years ago because of my love and my work. I am 38 years old, happily married and have a 9 year old son. My main job is to be a two-wheel mechanic and I have also completed my master’s degree in this profession.

So you don’t do music full-time. How’s your everyday life? Can music production be integrated into your everyday life without any difficulties?
Unfortunately, no. My main job is to work as a group leader in a workshop for the disabled, where I practice my profession and try to reintegrate people with disabilities into working life. It is not always easy to reconcile work and music. But I spend most of my free time with music. Even if it takes a lot of time, I try to find time to make music in addition to work and family.

How did you get into music? Is there anyone or anything that inspired you to make music yourself? Do you admire other famous musicians or producers?
Music has always been an important part of my life. I started playing guitar when I was 10 years old. In my youth I came into contact with electronic music and I was immediately hooked. Since I’m very interested in technology, it was only a matter of time before I was standing in front of the DJ booth. With my brother I traveled after artists like Sven Väth, Sam Paganini, Kerstin Eden etc., who inspired me a lot.

How would you describe the music you produce? Has your style changed before?
In general, my preferred genre is very broad. At the moment I really like more chilled out sounds, and above all, to integrate selfmade music played on real instruments into my tracks. But I also like to produce tracks in techno and tech house style.

We all know that creativity has ups and downs. How do you motivate yourself? Do you have any tips for others?
I listen to music nearly nonstop around the clock. It starts in the car on the way to work, then continues at work because the radio is on all day. I let out the musical impressions that I get all day long in my free time.

What’s next for you?
In addition to the current title Dragonfly, I have another remix that I did for Asiomazes. An own EP is also in the works, but the release date is not known yet. At the moment I’m in a creative process for my next tracks, which could maybe get a little faster.
