Nach Jahrzehnten in den Tiefen des Dark und Industrial Techno tauscht Daniel L. nun „Endzeit gegen Ambient“ und veröffentlicht mit „Singularity“ eine gelungene Mischung aus atmosphärischen und technoiden Klängen. Der perfekte Ambient-Sound für alle diejenigen, die es etwas intensiver mögen. „Chematics“ verwöhnt unsere Ohren mit düsterem, industriellen Ambientsound und wir wollen mehr, mehr, mehr.

Was hat dich zur Musik gebracht und hat dich irgendwer inspiriert, Musik zu machen?
Zur Musik gebracht hat mich wahrhaftig die Frage meiner Eltern, ob ich ein Instrument erlernen möchte. Das tat ich ab meinem 6. Lebensjahr: Ich besuchte regelmäßig einmal die Woche eine Musikschule und erlernte ganz klassisch Akkordeon und Klavier zu spielen. Absolut prägend für mich war „Don’t laugh“ von Josh Wink. Dieser Song hat mein Interesse für die elektronische Musik geweckt. Da war ich gerade mal 10 Jahre alt…

Wie würdest du die Musik beschreiben, die du normalerweise produzierst?
Ich bewege mich gern zwischen den Genres: Dark Techno, Industrial Techno – Freunde aus der Szene haben meinen Stil schon als „Endzeit Techno“ betitelt. Inzwischen versuche ich mich aber auch sehr gerne an Deep House, Dub Tech und Ambient.

Wie ist dein kreativer Prozessablauf? Welche Tools (Software, Hardware) nutzt du?
Es gibt keinen kreativen Ablauf bei mir. Die Sachen entstehen im Prozess selber, „just in time“ wie man so schön sagt. Passt die Kick oder Snare-Drum nicht mehr ins akustische Bild, wird gelöscht, ersetzt, neu definiert. Was ich nutze: Ableton 10 mit Push 1, mein Lieblings-VST Vakuum Pro 2.5, diverse Native Instruments VST, Waves Plugins, T-Racks Plugins. Hardware habe ich über die Zeit wieder abgeschafft.

Welche berühmten Musiker oder welche anderen Produzenten bewunderst du? Hast du ein Idol?
Nein, tatsächlich nicht. Durch die Digitalisierung der Musikbranche ist auch explosionsartig die Menge der kleinen Künstler exponentiell gewachsen. Ein Grund für mich, niemandem mehr explizit musikalisch zu folgen. Ich folge nur noch bestimmten Musikgenres.

Was war dein größter Erfolg bislang oder gibt es einen besonderen Moment in deiner Musikkarriere, der dich heute immer noch zum Lächeln bringt?
Sehr stolz war und bin ich auf diverse Remixes von und mit Kai Randy Michel, Michael Burkard und Andreas Florin. Und besondere Momente… Ja, meinen Besuch im Tresor mit Andreas Florin und meine eigenen früheren Gigs im damals legendären Club „Airport Würzburg“.

Was ist der beste Ratschlag, den du mal erhalten hast?
Zitat Andreas Florin (mit gespieltem Akzent und rollendem „r“): „You must read the tutorial!“ – Ohne diese Worte würde ich wahrscheinlich immer noch ohne Ableton-Kenntnisse dastehen.

Daniel, Hand auf’s Herz – wie ist das so, Familienleben, Job und auch noch die Musik unter einen Hut zu bringen? Man hört ja oft, „Je älter man wird, desto eher bleibt die Musikproduktion auf der Strecke.“ – Kennst du das?
Ja das stimmt. Leider bringt die Zeit mit sich, dass ich musikalisch nicht mehr so viel erschaffen kann, wie in früheren Jahren. Bis auf „Singularity“ stehen aktuell keine Releases an. Aber ich möchte eine kleine Podcast-Reihe entstehen lassen ausschließlich mit Casts von mir.

After decades in the depths of dark and industrial techno, Daniel L. is now swapping „Endzeit for Ambient“ and releases with „Singularity“ a successful mixture of atmospheric and technoid sounds. What got you into music and was there anyone who inspired you to make music?
Probably it was the question my parents asked me, if I would like to learn to play an instrument. I guess that got me into music. At the age of 6 I regularly attended a music school once a week and learned to play the accordion and piano the very classical way. „Don’t laugh“ by Josh Wink was absolutely defining for me. This song sparked my interest in electronic music. At that time I was just 10 years old …

How would you describe the music that you typically create?
I like to move between the genres: dark techno, industrial techno – friends from the scene have already dubbed my style „end time techno“. In the meantime, however, I also like to try deep house, dub tech and ambient.

What is your creative process like? Which tools (Software, Hardware) do you use?
There is no creative process with me. The things arise in the process itself, „just in time“ as the saying goes. If the kick or snare drum no longer fits into the acoustic image, it is deleted, replaced and redefined. What I use: Ableton 10 mit Push 1, mein Lieblings-VST Vakuum Pro 2.5, diverse Native Instruments VST, Waves Plugins, T-Racks Plugins. I got rid of hardware over time.

Which musicians or other producers do you admire? Do you have an idol?
No, actually not. With the digitalization of the music industry, the number of small artists has also grown exponentially. A reason for me not to follow anyone musically anymore. I only follow certain genres of music.

What is the most success you achieved or is there any kind of special moment in your music career that still makes you smile today?
I was and am still very proud of various remixes by and with Kai Randy Michel, Michael Burkard and Andreas Florin. And well, special moments… Yea, there was my visit to Tresor with Andreas Florin and my own gigs earlier in the „Airport Würzburg“, a legendary club in earlier days.

What is the best advice you’ve been given?
Quote from Andreas Florin (with a mock accent and a rolling „r“): „You must read the tutorial!“ – Without these words, I would probably still be without Ableton knowledge.

Daniel, hand on heart – what is it like to unite family life, job and music? You often hear, „The older you get, the less time is for music production.“ – Ever heard of that?
Yes it’s sad but true. Unfortunately, I can no longer create as much musically as in previous years. Except for „Singularity“ there are currently no other planned releases. But I want to create a small podcast series exclusively with casts of myself.
